Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic School’s varsity girl’s basketball team has had a strong start to the 2014-2015 season. At their first game vs. St. Mary’s, the Lady Cheetahs broke open the game in the second quarter by going on a 9-2 run to win 24-10.
The team was led offensively by Alexa Gonzalez with 8 points, and by Carolina Arevalo with 9 steals.
In their second game against St. Rose of Lima, the team played tight defense towards the end of the game escaping with an 18-17 victory over the Cardinals. With only a 1 point lead against the Immaculate Conception Celtics, Gonzalez (who had 9 points) led the team to victory in the fourth quarter after a 11-2 run and finished the game at 18-8.
The Lady Cheetahs are now 3-0 and inspired to keep last year’s school record as undefeated champions of the All Catholic Conference North.
The varsity boy’s basketball team is 2-0 on the season after defeating St. Mary’s 41-23 on opening day, and St. Patrick’s School on November 3 with a 27-23 score. The team’s offensive leader is Ulises Hernandez III who has 25 points in two games, and defensively by Andres Vega who has 7-plus rebounds in each game and 6 blocked shots in two games.
