Pace High School’s baseball players took some time off during their summer break to be a part of the Miracle League of Miami-Dade’s groundbreaking ceremonies for their new field in Tamiami Park.

The organization, founded in 2010 and co-chaired by Pace Class of 1977 alumnus Raimundo Rocha, provides an opportunity for children with mental and/or physical challenges to play baseball.

Pace Baseball and the Miami Marlins were part of hundreds of supporters that came out to celebrate the groundbreaking on August 13.

“I’m excited to see this come to life in our community of Miami,” said Pace catcher Jose Torres. “To see young boys and girls have the opportunity to participate in baseball/softball and for me to be a part of it is such a blessing. I’m happy that our school can help these kids.”

The Miracle League plans on opening the Tamiami Park field in Spring 2017 with hopes of hosting thousands of disabled kids from Homestead to North Miami.
