Monsignor Edward Pace High School’s (PACE) varsity baseball team was among only 16 high school teams in the nation recently invited to travel to Cary, North Carolina to participate in the widely recognized USA Baseball National High School Invitational (NHSI).
From April 3-9, PACE played a total of four games in the single-elimination tournament where they showcased their talent among the best baseball teams in the country.
The team was victorious over Tempe, Arizona’s Corona Del Sol High School (4-1) and California’s Huntington Beach High School (9-2) bringing the Spartans into the tournament semifinals. The semifinal game brought the Spartans face to face with two-time defending NHSI champions Orange Lutheran High School of Orange, California.
Although unable to hold on to their winning streak with a 9-0 loss, the team continued to their final consolation game against Blessed Trinity High School of Roswell, Georgia. The game ended in a 5-3 win for PACE, bringing the Spartans into a third place overall tournament standing.
This was the first time PACE has attended this event, now in its eighth year, which gave the local Spartans exposure at the most renowned high school baseball tournament in the country.
