Former St. Thomas University and Pace High infielder Jerry Downs and his team, the Greenville (South Carolina) Drive, clinched their first South Atlantic League Championship after defeating the Annapolis Intimidators, 8-3, at Fluor Field.
Brett Netzer's three-run double highlighted a five-run sixth that gave the Drive the win.
The Drive are a minor league team of the Boston Red Sox and a member of the South Atlantic League.
Jerry Downs, 23, is the brother of Pace recent graduate shortstop Jeter Downs, who was drafted in the first round by the Cincinnati Reds in June.
