Monsignor Edward Pace High softball coach Angel Torres and his team recently hosted the Middle School Softball Tournament to encourage middle school students to pursue playing high school softball.
Three middle school teams – Saint Louis Covenant, Immaculate and Holy Rosary Saint Richard, competed in the tournament.
Saint Louis Covenant took home first place followed by Immaculate and Holy Rosary Saint Richard.
Torres said the event also allowed his high school girls to mentor their younger peers and encourage them to continue to play softball in high school and college.
“It’s good experience to play multiple days and get a trophy at the end,” Torres said. “We want to reach out to the middle schools each year. It’s similar to the Slam-fest and Speedball tournaments geared towards high school athletes.”
