Perfect season elusive for Goleman football

Barbara Goleman Senior High’s football team tumbled on its way toward perfection.

The Gators were one game win away from completing an undefeated season.

If the team had pulled that off, it would have been the first time in school history.

But Miami’s Dr. Michael M. Krop Senior High spoiled the Gators’ hopes with a 24-20 victory on Nov. 6, to claim the inaugural Greater Miami Athletic Conference (GMAC) Independent championship.

The new league was created for 12 schools that wanted a fair chance to compete afteryears of defeats by nationally top-ranked South Florida teams.

Goleman, finishing 10-1, had turned the gridiron into its playground this season with its best record yet.

The Gators scored a season average of 39 points per game, while the defense allowed 16 points per game, according to MaxPreps.com.

Krop’s Lightning were defeated this season just once: 46-21 on Oct. 15, to the Gators

The next time they met, Krop got its revenge in a big way.
