Last month, top seed Webber International (28-2) defeated the St. Thomas volleyball team (25-7) 3-1 in the finals of The Sun Conference Championship Tournament held at the Sabbagh Center in Babson Park, Florida. With the win, Webber International earned an automatic bid to the NAIA National Championships.
Webber took a 2-0 lead in sets, then St. Thomas battled back to within a strong 25-17 performance in the third set. The fourth set was a back-and-forth affair with the Warriors taking the victory 25-23 to seal the match.
Senior setter Dana Nowaczyk led the Bobcats with 43 assists to go along with 17 digs, three kills and two service aces. Senior Shanotta Bawek led STU with 16 kills, while junior Whitney Battoe recorded 14 kills and served three aces. Defensively, five Bobcats registered double-digit totals – Caitlin McCluskey (18), Nowaczyk (17), Battoe (16), Bawek (15) and Kelli Kosydor (14) Kadeeja Griffin was credited with two blocks.
St. Thomas earned a spot in the finals of The Sun Conference Championships with a win over Warner on Friday night in the semifinals.
