The St. Thomas University’s women's cross country team capped off a memorable 2017 season, finishing runner-up at the Sun Conference Championships at Ave Maria University.
The Bobcats placed five runners in the top 10 to lead STU to the runner up finish. Sarah Bomkamo (19:13.0), a First-Team All-Conference performer and a two-time Sun Conference Player of the Week selection, was the highest placing Bobcat with a fifth place finish. Susana Gutierrez was named a First-Team All-Conference selection as well after finishing seventh with a 5K time of 19:22.6.
Sofia Young finished ninth with a 19:41.5 and Andrea Peterson was tenth with a 19:43.5. Young and Peterson were named Second-Team All-Conference.
STU finished second out of nine teams with a combined top-5 time of 19:40.5. Southeastern won the event with a 19:22.1, while SCAD Savannah finished third.
A total of five individual awards were garnered by the Bobcats with Bomkamp and Gutierrez earning First-Team All-Conference; Young and Peterson being named Second-Team All-Conference; and Peterson earning Academic All-Conference honors.
The Bobcats qualified for the NAIA National Championships, which started last week.
