STU's track and field team ranked in NAIA Top-25 poll

For the first time in school history, St. Thomas University men's and women's track and field teams are ranked in the NAIA Coaches' Top 25 poll, which was released last month.
The men's team made their debut in the rankings within the top 10, ranking eighth in the NAIA Coaches’ Top 25 poll. Jose Penalver leads the way for the Bobcats, currently holding the NAIA standard for the 800-meter (1:50.11), and he has qualified for the NAIA National Championship Meet.
Diego Lopez (half marathon), Isaac Joseph (200m) and Julian Pita (Long Jump), both of whom qualified for the National Championship, will be joining Penalver in the National Meet and representing the Bobcats in Gulf Shores, Alabama.
The STU women's track team is currently ranked 23rd in the NAIA Coaches' poll, and has several members going to compete in the NAIA National Championships. Sarah Bomkamp won the half marathon at the Critz Tybee Run Fest, as Susana Gutierrez finished second to clinch their bids to Nationals. Lesly Marcin has qualified as well, for the 1500m, giving the second year program an incredible seven representatives at the NAIA National Championship.
