Three local high school football teams lost for the first time this season, one team’s loss placed them in second place in its district and one team can’t stop its opponents from running up the score.
Goleman missed an extra point in the fourth quarter, which would’ve tied the game, as Ronald Reagan edged the Gators, 21-20, giving the Bisons their first win of the regular season and dropping the Gators from the ranks of the undefeated.
The Bisons are 1-3, 1-2. The Gators (2-1) face South Miami ( 2-2) on Friday, September 21.
The Gators won their first two games of the season by blowouts. They defeated Westland Hialeah, 41-0, to open the regular season and blew past Mourning, 45-0, scoring double digits in the first three quarters of the game.
Monsignor Edward Pace also lost its first game of the season, as American Heritage (3-0) crushed the Spartans, 42-7. The Spartans (3-1) face University (4-0) on Friday, September 21.
Hialeah Gardens is also in action this week when its faces Braddock (0-3) on Saturday, September 22.
Like Pace and Goleman, the Gladiators (3-1) lost its first game of the season when Dr. Krop (1-3) escaped with a 14-8 victory, giving the Lighting its first victory.
Miami Springs (3-1) defeated Mater Academy, 9-0 in a key district game, and the 2-2 Lions prepare for the winless Knights of Sunset High to bounce back on Thursday, September 20,.
American (1-2) will face Norland (0-3) on the road on Friday, September 21. Hialeah clobbered the Patriots, 28-0, on September 13, as the Thoroughbreds improved to 3-1.
Hialeah Miami Lakes fell to 0-4, as defending state champion Northwestern defeated the Trojans 48-0. The Trojans gave up a total of 194 points and only scored 6 in their first four games of the season. HML plays American on Thursday, October 4.
