Education Wednesday, July 16, 2014

Carlos F. Uz, a Miami Lakes resident and senior at Hialeah Miami Lakes Senior High School (HML) is one of the outstanding high school students from across the nation that will take part in a unique career development opportunity the National Youth Leadership Forum (NYLF): Careers in Law & CSI.

Forum sessions, held in Washington, D.C., introduce young scholars to the many challenges and career options in the legal profession and forensic science.

The forum curriculum is based on actual events. Throughout the six day program students learn through intensive simulations and the examples set by attorneys of law and court officials from the municipal court to the U.S. Supreme Court. Students gain confidence and perspective as they witness how court cases often change the legal system.

Many of the students who attend the conference are nominated by teachers and guidance counselors based on their leadership potential and interest in law and crime scene investigation.

The program also takes the students, including Uz, to some of the nation's most prestigious law schools, which have previously included the Georgetown University Law Center, The George Washington University Law School and American University Washington College of Law.
