Fire Station 64 welcomes visitors

The Public Safety Committee hosted its first coffee at Fire Station 64 in Miami Lakes on Aug. 16. Residents learned about firefighting skills and met fire rescue professionals and the Venom One Response Unit, who taught them about reptiles....

Mater Academy graduate Sara H. Morales heads to Barnard College

Sara H. Morales is a first generation high school student who recently graduated from both Mater Academy Charter High School with a 5.29 GPA with highest honors, and earned an Associate of Arts Degree from Miami Dade College and Doral College. Morales is a long standing member of Model United Nations, Gay-Straight Alliance and Social Justice League. She is also editor-in-chief of a independently published online magazine, La Fuerza, which features art made by young teens around the nation. Additionally, she is a National AP Scholar, was awarded a Wellesley Book honor , and is the recent recipient of the Young Women With Purpose scholarship. She will be attending Barnard College of Columbia University in New York City in the fall to pursue a joint major in Philosophy and Human Rights Studies.
