Walking, biking trail to glow in the dark

Walkers, runners and bicyclists who like to work out in the cooler evening hours will be able to follow a trail along Northwest 170th Street that will glow in the dark.
A grant from The Miami Foundation will fund the project, called the MiGlo Trail.
The path is on Northwest 170th Street between Northwest 89th Avenue and Northwest 77th Avenue.
It runs parallel to a canal that flows along the northern border in town.
The asphalt will be painted with a photo
luminescent paint that will be powered by light from the sun.
At night, the tree-lined path will reflect the daylight that it absorbed, making it safer for everyone who uses it.
The project combines the arts, mobility and pedestrian safety.
It was modeled after glow in the dark trails built in the Netherlands, Poland, Australia and Singapore, according to the town.
Miami Lakes was among 12 municipalities that will share $250,000 awarded Oct. 2 in The Miami Foundation’s annual Public Space Challenge.
The grant program’s purpose is to invigorate less used areas by enhancing mobility without automobiles and connecting neighborhoods in the county where it can be difficult to get around, the foundation said.
The town has not yet announced an installation date for the path.
