Spanish Lake Elementary wins STEAM/Silver designation

As Spanish Lakes Elementary (SLE) provides a learning culture to prepare students for the future, they have joined the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) designation program created by Miami-Dade County Public Schools. The STEAM program incorporates an engaging, well-rounded, integrated curriculum for a quality education.

Within the program, schools strive to accumulate points for a bronze, silver or gold designation. The points are accumulated through a total school-wide commitment, with teachers integrating STEAM lessons through classroom visitations. Participation in programs like the Fairchild challenge, the food forest garden, dream in green, robotics (STEAM and SECME Clubs), competitions and community partnerships are also accumulated in the points system.

SLE was excited to find 16 points were added, thanks to an increase in the science state assessment that will secure the silver designation for the school.

“(We) will ensure our community has the next generation of inventors, explorers, innovators, artists and leaders,” said Arts Integration specialist Susan Riley.
