History

Eagle Nest is a residential community of single- family homes that was built during the late 1970s by Sengra
Development Corporation, which later became The Graham Companies.
It is on the east side of town, north of Miami Lakes Drive and tucked between Miami Lakeway North and Cow Pen Road.
The open, ungated neighborhood has 115 homes.
Most houses have two-car garages and many have clay barrel-style roofs.
Mature trees line the blocks and there is an occasional cul-de-sac.
While some houses were built in the ranch style or have been modernized, there is a repeating pattern of homes that have four arches along the facades and arches that front the garages, too.
There are in-ground pools on some properties.

Amenities

Although Eagle Nest does not have a guard house or gate, it is enclosed by walls and is a safe community, residents say.
Sidewalks throughout the neighborhood are well-lit at night.
Eagle Nest has two small playgrounds.
The community is near a Publix supermarket and the Lake Katherine Shopping Center as well as the stores, restaurants and theaters on Main Street.
The Northwest 67th Avenue entrance to the Palmetto Expressway is a few blocks away and driving south on the avenue will lead to the Gratigny Parkway and Interstate 75.

Who lives there?

Many of the residents in Eagle Nest are retirees and original homeowners.
Nancy Gross has lived in Eagle Nest since 1978.
“I love Miami Lakes,” Gross said. “I have no desire to move anywhere else.”

What does it cost?

There were few sales in Eagle Nest during the past year, Realtor Lynn Matos said.
Current listings range from $485,000 to $489,000.
