Joshua Hertz, a transplant to South Florida from South Carolina, did an unusual thing following his graduation with his J.D. degree from St. Thomas Law School. He went solo. Those who know Hertz shouldn’t be surprised at his dive into the deep end of the pool though, as he has long harbored an entrepreneurial spirit since childhood.

Hertz began practicing personal injury with the sincere approach of helping out “the little guys.” He specializes in civil justice for victims of crime, cruise ship accidents, catastrophic injuries, slip and fall, wrongful death, large truck accidents, and car accidents.

“No case is too small, no case is too big,” said Hertz. “I know the idea of lawyers in the media, in films and television, is that it’s all about money, but for me, I’m just in it for the bottom line. I’m here to help.”

Hertz’s pursuit of a law degree came naturally, as it blended his love for helping people with his desire to start something of his own. Indeed, The Law Offices of Joshua Hertz are not Hertz’s first stab at a business. His first business was a paper route as a kid, then a lawn care business as a college student, until the collision of helping others and creating a start-up led him to law, and subsequently, led him to start off with a bang – his own law practice right out of college.

Since opening The Law Offices of Joshua Hertz in 2001 he has been nominated for Super Lawyers for two consecutive years, was inaugurated as President of the Dade County Bar Association Young Lawyers section in 2010, and is the current President of the Dominican American Bar Association, which he founded two years ago with a group of lawyers.

He is also currently co-chair of the Solo and Small Firm for the Dade County Bar Association for the last four years, another association founded by Hertz when he saw a gap for lawyers like himself that had gone solo in their practice. He has since graduated from the Florida Bar Leadership Academy where only 40 attorneys are accepted each year from around the nation.

Hertz runs his law practice from 8100 Oak Lane, Penthouse #403, in Miami Lakes Businss Park West, and has partnered with his brother, another attorney, Eric K. Hertz, based out of Georgia. Together they handle cases throughout the entire southeast. Additionally, Hertz works with his legal assistant Laura Lopez, who worked as a lawyer in her home country and is a reliable source of legal knowledge for his office.

“I am very grateful to work with Laura who is extremely knowledgable and without whom I couldn’t do what I do,” said Hertz.
