Students from the Center for Financial Training Future Bankers & Financial Professionals Program recently completed an internship designed to introduce young professionals to the world of financial services. The high school students spent the summer working for JetStream Federal Credit Union, where they got hands-on experience and professional development opportunities. They also learned about all the various careers on offer in the financial industry.

JetStream gave them experience in departments, including accounting, lending, collections, member service and human resources.

Students got to see real-world applications of concepts from classes while getting ideas about jobs they might enjoy.

The interns got practical experience working alongside JetStream employees in a way that helped them understand the practical side of day-to-day operations. The interns also met with JetStream leadership, including President and CEO Jeanne Kucey. She talked to them about the credit union’s mission and why it’s important for organizations like JetStream to help develop future financial professionals.

“We are proud to once again partner with the Center for Financial Training to provide students with meaningful, real-world experience,” Kucey said. “These future professionals brought enthusiasm, curiosity, and a willingness to learn that made a lasting impression on our team. Investing in young talent today helps strengthen the future of our industry and the communities we serve.”

Emilio Ruiz, Market Outreach and Training Specialist at JetStream Federal Credit Union, also enjoyed working with the students. He reckons it’s important for employers to offer interns practical, real-world experience.

“The CFT Future Bankers & Financial Professionals Program gives students an opportunity to experience the financial industry beyond the classroom,” he said. “By working alongside our team, they gain practical skills, build professional confidence and see firsthand how credit unions make a positive impact in people’s lives. “It’s rewarding to help inspire the next generation of financial professionals.”

By finishing the program, the seven student earned the American Bankers Association (ABA) Bank Teller Certificate, a nationally recognized credential.

The Center for Financial Training is a Miami-based nonprofit that works with both students and professionals, as well as financial institutions. It offers certificate courses and career development from entry level to advanced.

Miami Lakes-based JetStream is a 78-year-old credit union with more than 15,000 members and locations in Miami-Dade County and San Juan, Puerto Rico.
