“Lorca: Flamenco y Contemporáneo” will have its premiere at the Main Street Playhouse on Nov. 29.
Performers will sing and play guitar, and actors will say their lines in Spanish.
“This is a play I’ve always wanted to do, since I was in school,” said Silvia de Esteban, the playwright and director.
de Esteban was born in Spain like poet and playwright Federico Garcia Lorca, whose writing and life struggles inspired de Esteban’s project.
Lorca was gay and was an oppressed minority in his time who wrote about forbidden love, and audiences today will be able to relate to Lorca’s struggles, she said.
“I hope the people know Federico better and understand what he really wrote,” de Esteban said. “His humor, his sadness, everything.”
Actors will portray multiple roles. The performers are: Aniluli Munecas; Anna Sobero; Shakti Maal; Odel Iglesias (who will also sing); Francisco Porras; Eliu Ramos; Jorge Gordillo; Carlos Fabian Medina; Roderick Randle and guitarist Felipe Carvajal.
“Lorca: Flamenco y Contemporáneo” will run through Dec. 15 at the theater at 6766 Main St. in Miami Lakes.
Shows are Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m.
