The 4th annual Miami Lakes Cars for Cure, a classic car event which raises money to fight cancer and awareness of the deadly disease, is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday, April 8, on Main Street.

The event features a host of classic cars, great food and entertainment and is expected to attract more than 5,000 participants to come together to help fight cancer and honor cancer survivors and those who succumbed to the disease.

Roberto Alonso Jr., the event’s organizer, said this year’s social occasion, sponsored by AutoNation and The Graham Companies, is bigger and better ever.

Miami car designer Alex Vega, who is the star the The Auto Firm Show, is scheduled to make an appearance, and he may bring one of his cars.

Vega designed cars for Marc Anthony and Mr. 305 Pitbull.

“I am excited that he is part of the event,” Alonso said.

In addition to the popular classic cocktails truck, Milos’ Craft Beer has been added to the event, crafting out its special beer garden for participants.

Alonso said last year, the event helped raised over $23,853 and all of the proceeds went to the University of Miami’s Sylvester Cancer Center for local cancer research.

The Cars for Cure event is in honor of former Miami Lakes vice mayor Roberto Alonso Sr., who had a love for classic cars and organized the first classic car show on Main Street.

He died of cancer in 2013.
