During our last exploration of the warehouses in the Lower East Side, just off Miami Lakes Drive and Northwest 60th Avenue there was the unlikely sight of people working out.
They were members of Caution Crossfit, at 14660 NW 60th Ave. It has something for everyone including new moms, athletes guided by personal trainers and kids in a summer camp.
Established in 2011, it moved from Hialeah to this location in 2019 and is run by Miami Laker Dominick Maurici.
Inside the gym is Caution Nutrition, which offers pre-and-post-workout snacks and drinks.
“I like it a lot more from the last industrial area [we were in],” Maurici said.
The Lower East Side offers tree-lined streets, a sidewalk and plenty of bus access for people traveling through the area.
For Maurici the attraction to the neighborhood is also being part of the community where he was raised and lives.
“I always wanted to be part of Miami Lakes, my dad obviously being in Miami Lakes… [I] have always loved the community,” Maurici said. His father owns Domenico’s Italian Restaurant in the Lake Patricia Shopping Center.
The area also provided the size – a 13,000 square foot warehouse – that Maurici needed for clients and there is enough parking, too.
“For everything that we offer, we need the high ceilings that’s not offered in retail spaces, we need the outdoor spaces to run around and the parking,” Maurici said.
The gym may have up to 100 people working out throughout the day.
Caution Crossfit’s building is among six warehouses off of Northwest 60th Avenue. Neighbors include Avanti Laboratories, a vitamin manufacturer; ANS, or Arizona Nutritional Supplement Company, which manufactures nutritional products such as pill capsules, tablets, powders and containers, and Hotelier Linen Services, a commercial laundry for Florida hotels and resorts.
