Pace High School (PACE) senior and Miami Lakes resident Vanessa Perez-Robles has been named one of the first 100 recipients of Amazon’s Future Engineer Scholarship Program. Perez-Robles, who will be attending Dartmouth College in the fall, will receive a $10,000 scholarship renewable for up to three years or until a bachelor’s degree is earned. In addition to the scholarship, Amazon has also offered her a paid software engineering internship during the summer following her freshman year of college.
The surprise announcement was made in PACE’s administration building on March 26 as Perez-Robles was presented with an Amazon box containing the award news inside. A happy group of fellow classmates, faculty and staff were in attendance as they cheered for her hard-earned accomplishment. After shedding a few tears of joy, Perez-Robles called her mother to share the news.
“I feel extremely blessed to have been selected as a recipient and so thankful to all of the teachers and counselors that stood by and supported me through everything,” expressed Perez-Robles. She added that the Amazon scholarship will definitely relieve much of the stress that comes with the cost of college and will open doors for her as a future engineer.
Selection for this competitive scholarship was based on Perez-Robles’s strong academic performance, leadership and participation in school and community activities. She stood out among other applicants for her educational goals and objectives.
This Amazon scholarship was created to help spark and grow a generation of leaders in computer science. Renewal of the scholarship will be contingent on continuation of full-time enrollment in an eligible course of engineering study and a 3.0 or better GPA must be maintained.
Perez-Robles is looking forward to a career in sustainable engineering, and knows that the Amazon scholarship and internship will provide a valuable a key to help her achieve that dream. The PACE Family is confident that with her continued determination and drive to make a difference in the world, Perez-Robles will only be blessed with a lifetime of success.
