Mark your calendar now because on Sunday, April 8, a host of beautiful classic cars, great food and entertainment will once again take over Main Street in Miami Lakes.
The 4th annual Miami Lakes Cars for Cure, which raises money to fight cancer and awareness of the deadly disease, is bigger and better than previous years, according the event’s organizer, Roberto Alonso Jr.
The event was so great last year that the hours have been extended from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
“Last year, everyone enjoyed the cars and entertainment and we wanted them to enjoy them longer,” Alonso said.
The event, sponsored by AutoNation, will feature an appearance by Miami car designer Alex Vega of the The Auto Firm Show, and he may bring one of his cars.
Vega designed cars for Marc Anthony and Mr. 305 Pitbull.
“I am excited that he is part of the event,” Alonso said.
In addition to the popular classic cocktails truck, Milos’ Craft Beer has been added to the event, crafting out its special beer garden for participants.
Alonso said about 5,000 people were on hand last year and helped raise a record $23,853, and all of the proceeds went to the University of Miami Sylvester Cancer Center for local cancer research.
“Last year’s event could not have been such a huge success without our presenting sponsors, AutoNation and The Graham Companies,” Alonso said. “Also all of the volunteers made it a success, giving of their personal time from planning, entertainment, security, clean up and so much more.”
The Cars for Cure event is in honor of former Miami Lakes vice mayor Roberto Alonso Sr., who had a love for classic cars and organized the first classic car show on Main Street. He died of cancer.
