This year’s Reindeer Run 5K attracted 500 runners to Business Park West in support of veterans causes. Judy Farcus Serra, chief financial officer for Headquarter Automotive Group and a member of the Miami Lakes Veterans Committee, said the event raised just over $50,000. The committee is hoping to use the money for scholarships for the children of Miami Lakes veterans, she said.

The annual holiday run was held Dec. 9 and presented in part by the Miami Lakes Veterans Committee and Headquarter Toyota. Hialeah Gardens High School’s band performed and the HIVE Preparatory School’s dance team cheered on the runners as they approached the finish line in Veterans Park. Runners of all ages ran for the cause, including Miami Lakes Mayor Manny Cid and Councilman Josh Dieguez, who hopes to replace him as mayor. The top finishers were two teenagers: Sebastian Coraspe and Nicole Lewis, who won last year, too.

A sponsor village treated runners with items from Bolay; Chick-Fil-A; Acai Express; Polar Beverages and Celsius Energy Drinks. Other sponsors included Insurance Nation; FPI Security Services; Independent Insurance Associates; Southeastern Shop Services; HIVE Preparatory School; Corzo Unlimited Electric; Sweat 440; Acai Express; JJ Compulink; Caution Crossfit; CarePlus Health Plans; BDO USA; Montes Family McDonald’s and Healthy Spine Institute.
