Fall is just around the corner and Miami Lakes residents are eagerly awaiting the arrival of the Pumpkin Patch located at Miami Lakes United Methodist Church, 14800 N.W. 67 Avenue on the corner of Miami Lakes Drive and Ludlum Road. Kiwanis International and UNICEF joined forces on a five year project to raise $110 million to eliminate maternal and neo-natal tetanus in third world countries. The project was appropriately named the ELIMINATE project and for just a $1.80 donation, a child or mother is vaccinated against tetanus. To date over $100 million has been raised towards meeting the goal. During the last week of summer, Pack 660 Cub Scouts of Miami Lakes had an environmental adventure they will never forget as they releases baby loggerhead turtles to the ocean.The Scouts participated in a Nova Southeastern University program at the campus’s Marine Biology School in Dania Beach learning about Florida turtles, nesting habits, the reasons for their endangerment, and more.The Scouts then went with researchers to the beach...
