M. Lakes Bookmark Design winner is Sofia Palomino

Sofia Palomino, 11, was the winner of the Bookmark Design contest for the Miami Lakes Branch Library. She was also the grand prize winner for the county overall in the ages 9 to 12 category. She competed with children from across the county to have her design featured on bookmarks that will be distributed at all branches, and featured on the library’s website.

Ribbon-cutting ceremony which officially opened Miami Lakes’ new Youth Center, “The Spot,” featured town officials including Mayor Michael Pizzi, Councilmembers Tony Lama, Manny Cid, Ceasar Mestre and Frank Mingo, along with Town Manager Alex Rey. The state-of-the-art facility celebrated its first “Open Hang Night” on December 2 which attracted a large group of Miami Lakes youth.
