On October 11, Andrea Graham Rechichi of The Graham Companies was the guest speaker for the students of “Year Up” during their weekly “Friday Feedback” at Miami Dade College’s North Campus.
Throughout the fall semester, students that are participating in the Year Up program have weekly sessions where professionals from the business world come in to share their personal career paths as well as other insightful information about the business world and items such as the importance of obtaining a college degree.
In January, these students will embark on a six-month internship and put their new skills to work. The students participating all live in the Miami Gardens, Opa Locka and Hialeah areas and are very familiar with Miami Lakes.
They were surprised to meet a member of the family business that “owns the cows by Main Street.”Year Up’s mission is to close the opportunity divide providing urban young adults with the skills, experience, and support that will empower them to reach their potential through professional careers and higher education.
Year Up achieves this mission through a high support, high expectation model that combines marketable job skills, stipends, internships and college credits. Year Up is partnered with Miami Dade College at both the Wolfson and North Campus.
