Malique Lewis, Natalia Reboredo and Monica Marques are Posse Foundation scholars. Malique plans to attend Syracuse University in New York and study broadcasting, while Natalia and Monica will attend Hamilton College in Clinton, N.Y. and plan to major in political science. The Town of Miami Lakes and its Education Advisory Board are accepting applications for The Graham Companies Scholarship, to be presented by the firm. Two scholarships of $1,000 each will be awarded to graduating high school seniors who are residents of Miami Lakes. Applications must be submitted to town hall by March 31. The EAB will choose two students in April; winners will be announced at the April 21 town council meeting....
American Senior High School’s Dewayne Martin won a Posse Foundation scholarship, his school in Hialeah announced.
Dewayne has been accepted to Hamilton College in
Clinton, N.Y.
He plans to study public policy and economics.
The Posse Foundation selects students from diverse backgrounds to create a group, or “posse,” at universities and helps them become leaders.

BotOwls’ robot competes in contest

The Miami Lakes K-8 Center’s ‘BotOwls’ competed at the VEX IQ Showdown Tournament at the Howard D. McMillan School in Miami on Feb. 22.
The team of seven students placed in 17th out of 30 teams in their first year of competition.

YMCA offers camp for Spring Break

Let your kids spend spring break at a YMCA camp with trained staff. They’ll do a variety of activities during the week, from March 23 - March 27. The camp will be open from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Royal Oaks Park in Miami Lakes. If you register before March 6, the price is $80 for all five days.
