American High School JROTC sponsored a three-day college tour of five major Florida Universities. Miami Lakes Educational Center Chess Club members Kristian Aspi, Robert Walsh, Daniel Manfreidiz, Elkin Huertas and Joseph Garcia competed in the recent North Regional K-12 Chess Tournament at North Miami Senior High School and came in second place. The team quallified for the upcoming district tournament.

The Miami-Dade County School Board unanimously approved two items proposed by Board Chair Perla Tabares Hantman at its regular meeting in January. Bob Graham Education Center announced that Laura Jui, a middle school mathematics teacher, was named one of the Top 50 Teachers, by regional designation, with the highest student learning outcomes over three years based on FCAT results and Algebra I VAM.
