College bound high school seniors may be far from home and on their own in just a few short months. Many students worry about the need to be responsible for their own finances. Carmen Valdes shares, “Studying, working and paying for food and rent on my own is a scary prospect.” Fortunately, advanced placement US Government students at Hialeah Miami Lakes High School (HML) have an additional resource to help prepare them for the fall.
HML has partnered with Wells Fargo’s Miami Lakes Branch and personal banker Liliana Henao to provide financial literacy workshops to these college bound students. The workshop series began with an introduction to banking in October, followed by a look at budgeting and savings in November.
In February, students will learn about establishing and responsibly using credit. In April, the series will conclude with a look at options and strategies to pay for college.
According to Wells Fargo representative Henao, “It is a pleasure to educate students on finances the way I wish someone would have educated me at their age, because financial stability should always start early.”
