M.L. Chamber hosts Lakes Police Commander at April 13 lunch

Miami-Dade Police Major George A. Perez, the Town of Miami Lakes police commander, will be the guest speaker for the Miami Lakes Chamber of Commerce membership meeting.

The event is scheduled for 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 13, at Don Shula’s Hotel inside the Grand Ballroom.

Perez has been a Miami-Dade police officer for 16 years, which included working in the department’s Police Services Division as a patrol officer, investigator and supervisor.

Throughout his career, Perez has been entrusted with sensitive assignments within the department, which have included assignments in the Police Services Division, Criminal Investigations Division and the Office of the Police Director.

Specifically, Perez served in the Robbery Bureau where he was entrusted to command the Robbery Intervention Unit, which focuses its efforts on apprehending the most violent criminals.

He commanded the South District General Investigations Unit, which is responsible for all general investigations within the largest police district in Miami-Dade County.

Perez also served in the Professional Compliance Bureau, which is responsible for ensuring the professional standards of the Miami-Dade Police Department.

His most recent command assignment was in the Homicide Bureau, where he was responsible for coordinating all death investigations, police shootings investigations and in-custody death investigations.

In addition, he was tasked with organizing and commanding the Homicide Street Violence Task Force, which consisted of local, state and federal investigators responsible for protracted murder, gang, weapons and narcotics investigations. 

Perez holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice Management and he has attended and completed various command leadership enhancement source.

As the major for Miami Lakes’ Miami-Dade police detached unit, Perez has introduced Fair and Impartial Policing strategies and has enhanced its community policing practices to lower crime and enhance community partnerships.
