  Led by their Student Council, students at Miami Lakes K-8 Center honored the victims of gun violence at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School by wearing orange. Looking to make a difference and continue the conversation, the Student Council created awareness posters and scheduled an open forum for students to share their feelings, and offer ways to make a change.

MLA honors Parkland victims

At noon on February 21, Mater Lakes Academy gathered in the school courtyard to release balloons honoring the 17 victims of the Parkland shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. Many students participated, and some even created signs in solidarity with the students and the family members of the fallen.

 

  Miami Lakes Cultural Affairs Committee hosted a luncheon on Saturday, March 3, in honor of Women’s History Month. Miami Lakes resident and former Town Councilmember Mary Collins was the luncheon’s keynote speaker. The event was held at the Robert Alonso Community Center, 16500 N.W. 87 Avenue.
