Music, magic, holiday carols, laughter and fun convened on Sunday, December 7, at the Main Street Playhouse, where the Miami Lakes Cultural Affairs Committee hosted the 14th Annual Holiday Children’s Show.

Neill D. Robinson, the committee’s chairperson, acted as master of ceremonies introducing such acts as Miami Lakes K-8 Center’s middle school chorus and the North Pole’s own “Mrs. Claus.”

Miami Lakes Mayor Wayne Slaton and Vice Mayor Manny Cid were among the distinguished guests who attended the show. The event attracted nearly 100 parents, children and teens from the local area.

The middle school chorus, under the direction of Sara Cino, performed eight seasonal songs with playful choreography, even recreating the famous kickline of New York City’s Rockettes. The fan favorites “Do You Want to Build A Snowman?” and “Let It Go” from the Walt Disney film “Frozen” generated excitement among the toddlers and young children as they sang along with the chorus.

Later, Mrs. Claus performed exciting magic tricks and recited a live rendition of “Twas The Night Before Christmas.” She was also joined on stage by some of her animal friend puppets to sing holiday carols with the audience.

“There is nothing better than seeing children and their families enjoying a beautiful day together and creating memories,” said Slaton. “This event is truly special and was a great way to commemorate the holiday season. Thanks to the Cultural Affairs Committee, the Main Street Players, and all those involved in making this event a great success.”

After the show, a reception was held in the lobby where holiday cookies and punch were served.  Mrs. Claus also distributed books to the attendees donated by the Miami Lakes Education Advisory Board and local business Inspired 2 Think.
