The Miami Lakes Cultural Affairs Committee held its annual Father Day’s Fishing Tournament on June 22 at Graham Dairy Lake. Bad weather forced postponement of the event for a week but that didn’t deter fathers and their kids from dropping lines into the water along Oak Lane.
Twenty-five fish were caught during the catch and release tournament, the committee said. Prizes -- medals and raffle items -- were awarded for different categories:
--Zachary Hertz, 13, won Best Overall Fisherman; First Fish Caught at 8:07 a.m. and Smallest Fish, a Mayan Cichlid that was 9 inches long and .75 pounds.
--Mario O. Pinera, Jr. won Biggest Fish Caught after reeling in an 18-inch Largemouth Bass that weighed 3.64 pounds;
--Cody Collazo, 6, was the Youngest Fisherman and Miguel Zarran, 75, was the Oldest Angler.
--David Corredor won Most Fish Caught, with six fish hooked.
--Hector Gonzalez and his daughters Melanie Gonzalez, 11, and Hailey Gonzalez, 9, won Best Fishing Team.
One Stop Marine provided the live bait. The Law Office of Joshua J. Hertz P.A. and Morera Law Group P.A., which is owned by Councilman Bryan Morera, were the sponsors.
