Town salutes vets during 34th parade

  Thousands waved American flags and cheered as the Town of Miami Lakes honored veterans at the 34th annual Miami Lakes Veterans Day Parade on November 10. The parade was followed by a ceremony honoring the parade’s Grand Marshall, Major Charles James (above). Participants included marching bands from local high schools, JROTC’s, local sports clubs, a variety of scouting units and many more.
  Jamburrito, an evening of theatre with a performance by “white rose miami” is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Sunday, December 8, at the Main Street Playhouse, 6766 Main Street, in Miami Lakes. A reception precedes the show at 6 p.m. Tickets are $50 per person with proceeds benefiting the South Florida Council, Boy Scouts of America. Bike Rodeo and Safety Day on Dec. 7

  Town of Miami Lakes and Loving Soles, a local charity dedicated to providing shoes to Miami’s homeless founded by Tony Garcia, Dr. Daryl Gershbein, Dr. John and Ileana McGoohan’s teenage children, hosted a shoe drive benefiting Camillus House. On the morning of November 9, Miami Lakes residents and volunteers collected over 400 gentle worn shoes.

Bovo and Garcia deliver food to 1000 families

  Well over a thousand families were able to enjoy a plentiful Thanksgiving feast thanks to a  food distribution event at Amelia Earhart Park in Hialeah.
