The Pace Spartans football team is off to a great start. They kicked off the season with a defeat against Hialeah-Miami Lakes Trojans 40-0 and then triumphed over Ronald Reagan High on August 29 with a 31-12 win.
Head Coach Mario Smith has made it a goal for the team to work on camaraderie and sportsmanship, in addition to practicing crucial skills such as tackling. As a trainer and former professional athlete, Smith understands the importance of training and timing and instills his values in the team.
Historically, the Spartans have seen many student athletes awarded thousands in scholarships to play for major college teams, followed by drafts to professional teams, such as the NFL’s Broncos and Steelers.
This year’s team roster consists of several seniors who have had years of practice and are seen as strong leaders by the younger players. Smith is confident that this season will continue with several wins, and students are already eager to watch the school’s homecoming game against IMG Academy on October 4.
