Carolyn Hurtado, a 6th-grade student at Bob Graham Education Center, was recognized by the Barbara Bush Teen Trendsetters Program, which is under the umbrella of the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy, for her outstanding leadership in mentoring students to help enhance their reading skills.

In the program, teen mentors are paired weekly with first, second and third grade students who are six months or more behind in reading, to help them catch up with their superb reading counterparts.

Hurtado goes beyond her duties by organizing her lessons, creating additional lessons as well as donating her own books to students.
