Former T-Bred and Miami Lakes business owner Gary Snow, of Snow’s Jewelers, was inspired by the movie Calendar Girls to fundraise for former classmates who are battling cancer. Snow created and funded the idea for a playful girls calendar with each month featuring a Hialeah Senior High alumna from the classes of 1965, 1966, 1967 and 1969.

The calendar, which runs from July 2015 through June 2016 includes Cheryl Jocz, Peggy O’Grady, Mary Varela, Barbara Andrews, Nancy Hallbert, Linda Szaryc, Dee Chamberlain, Vickie Bailey, Sylvia Phillips, Linda Lee, Peggy Burke, and Charlotte Layfield.

“I heard that some former classmates were battling cancer and I thought this could be a way to fundraise for them,” said Snow.

Snow, part of the reunion committee for Hialeah Senior High School’s class of 1967, is active in keeping in touch with classmates and is sending the funds from the calendar

“At Snow’s Jewelers we sign up to host registration for the Susan G. Komen events, so we are involved with funding help for those dealing with cancer,” said Snow, “but for this specific situation, I wanted the funds to go directly to someone I used to share the halls with in high school.”

Snow also celebrated a reunion weekend with the class of 1967 in early May that included events at the Hialeah Racetrack, the new Milander Auditorium, and a friendly softball game at Miami Lakes Optimist Park that pitted class of 1967, Snow’s team, against 1965. Snow is proud to have been on the winning team.

“Now the class of 1975 wants to go up against us,” Snow chuckled.

Among the reunited classmates was former football linebacker for four super-bowl winning teams, Ted Hendricks.
