Miami Lakes announced it will offer an insight into the world of aviation through Operation SAFEE Flight Academy during the summer camp program at Roberto Alonso Community Center, 16500 N.W. 87 Avenue.

The two-day academy will be offered to campers that participate in the YMCA Summer Camp program. Campers will get a chance to hear from aviation professionals such as air traffic controllers, plots, certified flight instructors, avionics techs, and aircraft mechanics on career opportunities in the aviation field and campers will also get a chance to try out a flight simulator and take a tour of an air traffic control tower.

Operation SAFEE Flight is dedicated to helping children stay in school, improve their academic performance and explore STEM education and career possibilities in the aviation industry.

Councilmembers Tim Daubert, Ceasar Mestre, Frank Mingo and Nelson Rodriguez attended the Operation SAFEE Flight South Florida Aviators Fly-In and Educational Expo on April 17 at the Opa Locka Airport Orion Jet Center.
