Lutheran Services Florida has appointed Lorenzo Cobiella chairman of its board.

Cobiella, the deputy town attorney for Miami Lakes, is a Catholic. While a communicant of Our Lady of the Lakes Catholic Parish, he was a youth minister and he volunteered with Lutheran Services Florida, performing community service work that included building transition homes.

“My  hope is to get more involved here in Miami-Dade County,” Cobiella said of his goals as leader of LSF’s board. They include “working in coordination with LSF to serve their clients at legal clinics for indigent persons at St. Thomas University, and to revive the Miami Bridge Project and to help youth who have been sex trafficked.”

A member of LSF’s board since 2019, he served as vice chair in 2025.

Another local organization he wants to support is the Lippman Youth Shelter in Oakland Park for at risk youth who are supervised by the Florida Dept. of Juvenile Justice.

LSF is a non-profit organization and says it assists the state’s most vulnerable people. It works to reduce suicide and addiction rates.

It also assists families in crisis and helps people become educated to improve their economic situations, according to its website.

“They do good and needed work throughout the state of Florida,” Cobiella said.

Cobiella is a partner at Gastesi, Lopez, Mestre & Cobiella, PLLC in Miami Lakes. He works with local governments and on education law.

In addition to Miami Lakes, Cobiella is a city attorney in Doral, and is a special magistrate for the Town of Medley

He earned a bachelor’s degree in finance from Florida International University and his law degree from Barry University.  He previously served as a congressional aide to former U.S. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen.
