Oct. 4 Hispanic Heritage Festival at Ana G. Mendez University. Open to all, enjoy music, dance, art and cuisine to learn about the school’s Hispanic and Latino students, faculty and community. 15201 NW 79th Court.  5 p.m. – 8 p.m. Free.

Oct. 5 Cosmos for a Cure. Chela’s Cocteleria will donate 50% of proceeds from the sales of Cosmopolitan cocktails to the American Cancer Society. Donations to the cause from patrons will also be accepted. 15301 NW 67th Ave. 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. Cash bar, free admission.

Oct. 11 Miami Lakes Chamber of Commerce monthly luncheon. Guest speaker is Juan Fernandez-Barquin, clerk of the court and comptroller for Miami-Dade County. Oct. 11 Zonta Club of Miami Lakes presents a discussion about human trafficking. The Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office will teach residents how to identify the warning signs. The Zonta Club is also accepting donations of gift cards, clothing and toiletries for the agency’s human trafficking unit. Miami Lakes Town Hall, 6601 Main St. Free. 6 p.m.

Oct. 14 Halloween Trick or Treat on Main Street, Miami Lakes. Shopkeepers will hand out candy to costumed kids. 5 p.m. - 8 p.m. Free. 

Oct. 14 Skate Miami Lakes. Bring your skateboard, rollerblades, scooters and helmets to Picnic Park East to enjoy the portable skate park. SkateFree will be on hand to teach skills as well. 6075 Miami Lakes Drive. Free.  10 a.m.

Oct. 14 Cultural Affairs Committee’s annual Hispanic Celebration, this year honoring Spain. There will be a flamenco dancer; music; dancing; a presentation on Spain. Paella and sangria will be provided by El Pimiento restaurant. Miami Lakes Town Hall, 6601 Main St. Free. 6 p.m.

Oct. 27 Teen Open Hang. Teenagers ages 13 - 17 can meet friends at The Spot during this monthly event. Miami Lakes Youth Center, 6075 Miami Lakes Drive. Free. 6 p.m. 

Oct. 28 Nightmare on Montrose. Join the Youth Activities Task Force at Veterans Park from 6 p.m. – 10 p.m. for “costumes, candy and cobwebs,” a family-friendly Halloween party. Visit the haunted house and candy stations; decorate pumpkins; dine at food trucks and compete in the costume contest. 15151 NW 82nd Ave. Free.
