Miami-Dade County's Water & Sewer Department says it is using a “somewhat stronger disinfection and bleaching process” than usual this month at regional water plants.
Through Oct. 29, residents may notice a chlorine taste or odor in tap water.
The county says the change is temporary and will not affect consumers’ health, though those who use dialysis machines, own tropical fish or restaurants with fish holding tanks are advised to get professional advice about removing chlorine residuals during this period, the county said.
The treatment is done annually.
