Elderly Affairs Committee looks out for seniors

The Miami Lakes Elderly Affairs Committee’s monthly ‘Lunch Bunch and Bingo’ gatherings are on hold during the coronavirus pandemic.

The committee has decided to use that budget to feed older adults in the community and hand out hot meals each Wednesday.

Casavana Cuban Cuisine in the Windmill Gate Shopping Center prepared the meals on July 29.

“We love helping the community,” said Antonio De La Hoz, manager at Casavana Cuban Cuisine. “Anything we can do to help, we are here.”

The committee will provide meals through September, said Dottie Wix, chair of the EAC. The hot lunch package held a bingo card and bottle of hand sanitizer, too.

Pedro Fiallo, a committee member, said they are enlisting local restaurants in the effort.

“We wanted to use the restaurants in Miami Lakes because they need our help,” Fiallo said.
