The gymnasium of Barbara Goleman Senior High School housed the annual Magnet Fair on Wednesday, November 13, where prospective students were considering joining the Gator family. Barbara Goleman’s principal, Joaquin Hernandez, was in attendance along with the school’s administrators Lizette Hevia and Leonard Torres.
Counselors Elizabeth Piña and Raquel Blanco were also in attendance to answer questions about our Magnet Programs.
Additionally, many of Goleman’s esteemed educators and current Magnet students were present. But most importantly were the prospective future Gators, the incoming freshmen. Both teachers and students were available to inform incoming freshmen about the school’s variety of clubs, athletics and Magnet Programs.
The school’s many clubs and sports that were present included the Key Club, the Jewels, the Goleman Cheerleaders, Cooking, Drama Club and Football Team. The Magnet programs represented were the NAF Academies of Finance, Information Technology and Hospitality and Tourism. The prospective students were interested in what Barbara Goleman had to offer, but the AP/Cambridge Capstone Program took the spotlight.
Being one of 20 schools in the world to host this prestigious program, Barbara Goleman staff and students explained to prospective students the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity offered. Maria Albano, Seminar Course instructor, and Carmen Martinet, Research Course mentor, spoke to parents about the future opportunities the program provided for their children.
The part of the fair that seemed to interest the future Gators was when current students gave their opinions on the school and its available programs. The night ended with students and parents leaving with a better outlook on Barbara Goleman Senior High. Potential Gators had a skip in their step, excited about what their future might hold in the Swamp.
Future students who attended the Magnet Fair believed that with the education Barbara Goleman Senior High School can provide combined with their own self-determination, nothing could stop them from reaching success.
They became powerful. They became fearless. They became Gators.
