Grand Marshals named for Veterans Day Parade

Rosa Nell Hammer and Pedro Fiallo will preside as grand marshals for the 40th Annual Miami Lakes Veterans Day Parade.
Presented by Royal Caribbean Ltd., the parade is set for Sunday, Nov. 10 from 10 a.m. – noon.
The grandstand will be at Main Street and Northwest 67th Avenue.
Hammer, 100, is a real estate agent with The Keyes Company.
During World War II she worked in Ohio as riveter on the U.S. Navy’s Corsair fighter plane, the town said.
Her late husband Harvey Hammer fought during WW II and in the Korean War, and one of their four children is also a veteran.
Hammer is a great-grandmother and has lived in Miami Lakes since 1967.
Fiallo, 75, was born Havana, Cuba and moved to the United States in 1962. He married, had four children and is a grandfather to four children.
Fiallo is a U.S. Army veteran. He had a career in mortgage finance and founded the Friendship International Baseball Tournament, the town said.
Since 2016, Fiallo has volunteered with the Elderly Affairs and Veterans committees. In 2018, he was named town Volunteer of the Year.
Fiallo is the publicist for American Legion Post 144; belongs to the Hialeah-Miami Lakes Republican Club and is community relations liaison for Foundation Hope & Life USA.
In addition to parade presenter Royal Caribbean Ltd., sponsors include Miami Lakes AutoMall and
The Graham Companies.
Marchers will begin at Bull Run Road at Northwest 67th Avenue.
They’ll travel south to
Eagle Nest Lane, then northeast to Main Street and town hall.
Northwest 67th Avenue will be closed to traffic from 6:30 a.m. – 1 p.m.
