The Miami Lakes Heat All Stars team competed in the 19th annual USSSA SWAMP Classic two-day tournament in West Palm Beach.

The team’s coaches and the players’ parents said it was a brave performance by the girls who are 14 and 15 years old who defeated the two 18 and under teams, Plantation Pressure and Miami Stingrays, to make it to the championship game.

“The girls played valiantly,” said head coach Alex Castroman.

Castroman said offensively, the team recorded 28 hits in five games, and defensively committed only three errors  with five double plays and a couple of amazing defensive plays as well. “Our pitching was great that weekend, which was led by Ashley Alfonso and Cassidy Zeigler,” Castroman said. “They pitched great and they hung in there even playing three games in row.”

Castroman added: “The coaches and parents couldn’t be prouder of all our girls. Some of these girls have been playing together for the past four to five years and many of them have played at Miami Lakes Optimist Park since first grade. This shows that hard work and dedication can finally pay off.”
