American Senior High’s football team beat North Miami Beach, 46-22, last week and used the game as a tune-up for the playoffs that start in two weeks.

The Patriots clinched a postseason berth two weeks ago but continued to roll past opponents, as they try to get over the hump by advancing to the second round.

American has lost four consecutive first round playoff games after winning the district championship.

In the North Miami Beach game, the Patriots gave their upcoming playoff opponents something to ponder if they should meet.

American’s defense forced two fumbles, and an interception sealed the game.

Monsignor Edward Pace beat Keys Gate, 45-20, and Norland crushed Hialeah Miami Lakes, 35-0, during the Vikings’ homecoming week.

After Northwestern eliminated Norland from playoff contention, the Vikings took their frustration out on the Trojans, breaking open the game with a 70-yard touchdown pass from Rodrick Robinson to Jordan Robinson.

From there, Norland’s offense exploited Hialeah Miami Lakes’ defense, scoring 21 points in the second quarter.

The Vikings’ defense held the Trojans to only 19 yards in the game and forced two turnovers.

Mater Academy suffered its first loss of the season last Friday as Sunset High captured the District 16-7A championship with a 24-16 win. The Knights will host a regional quarterfinal on November 13.
