The Digital Media Technology and Entrepreneurship classes at Hialeah Miami Lakes (HML) Senior High School are joining forces to create an all new academy for the 2015-2016 school year aptly titled the Digital Media Technology and Entrepreneurship Academy. The new academy was made possible by a grant that paved the way for planning and construction of a “Google-style” room which will combine two classrooms.

Within the new academy’s classroom, students will receive quality education relating to the academy’s learning strands along with state of the art technology and rigorous curriculum, similar to the school’s Magnet School of Distinction program, iPrep Academy.

The Digital Media Technology and Entrepreneurship Academy aims to assist students interested in business, finance, marketing, and digital media make a smooth transition into those industries following their time in high school and college. Students will have access and instruction on utilizing programs such as Dreamweaver, Premier Plus, and coding.

“Our world is changing,” said HML principal, Eric Acosta. “It’s becoming more digital and we want to give students the opportunity and the skill set needed to do things like run their own business. We give the students in our community choices for quality education in their field of interests all within one school.”

Likened to a university experience, the new academy’s flexible seating classroom and skill-heavy program will offer students who wish to delve into fields of entrepreneurship the opportunity for education that builds both within and outside of school walls. The school’s plans for this new academy include potentially designating it as a magnet program in the years to come and opening a student-run store to offer items like website building for teachers and school t-shirts created by academy students.
