Reuven Kanner, the longtime owner of Sir Speedy Printers in Miami Lakes, died peacefully on Sunday, July 1.
Kanner was born in 1943 in Focsani, Romania. The younger of two children, he grew up in the countryside where his father, Nathan, was the village dentist, and his mother, Miriam, was devoted to him and his sister Rene.
As a teenager, he emigrated with his father and sister to Israel where he served in the Israeli Army in both the Six-Day War and the Yom Kipper War, both of which shaped the type of person he was in life – a determined fighter.
He met his wife, Susana Kanner, in 1976 in Cali, Columbia. They moved to the U.S. the same year and started their small business of operating a franchise of Sir Speedy Printers which they owned in Miami Lakes for 39 years.
Kanner was incredibly dedicated to his work and embodied the entrepreneurial spirit, waking up most days at 5 a.m. to be the first one in the office.
He is survived by his wife, Susy; daughter Nicole Kanner, son-in-law Josh Childs, and granddaughters Emily and Lucy Childs of Boston; son Jonathan of Orlando; and his sister Rene Marcovici of Jerusalem.
Funeral services were held on July 3 and Beth David Memorial Gardens in Hollywood. The family suggested donations in his name to Jewish Community Services of South Florida’s Help Seniors Live Better at https://jscfl.org/donate.
