La Pasión Según Antígona Pérez by Luís Rafael Sánchez opens at Main Street Playhouse, 6766 Main Street, on December 9. The set is in place, lines are being learned, and a great deal of hard work is going into producing the first Spanish show at the playhouse.
For this production, the seating arrangement of the Playhouse has been altered to perform in a profile theater setting to maximize the space and have a more intimate experience with the audience; something never done at the Main Street Playhouse before.
La Pasión Según Antígona Pérez is a relevant piece of theater that will incite questions about how government has a direct impact of how we live our lives, how we receive information from the media and the role that we all play in fighting fear and retaining civil liberties.
Held captive in the palace of Generalísimo Creón Molina, Antigona Pérez is a political prisoner awaiting execution. During her stay in the dungeon, visitors come to test her values, and she’s strongly criticized by the press in charge of misrepresenting the truth. The production brings this classic story of civil disobedience to modern day. Through this story, values are corrupted, fear controls decisions, and it takes courage to remain loyal to our beliefs.
The show is directed by Isaac Polanco, and will be stage managed by Daniel Nieves. The cast includes: Antígona by Anne Garcia, Aurora by Adela Romero, Creón Molína by Alejandro Milían, Pilar by Salomé Muriel, Monsenor Escudero by Amarú Pereyra, Irene, Journalist 5 by Carmen Albernas, Journalist 1 by Camila Rodriguez, Journalist 2 by Rosalyn Tavarez, Journalist 3 by Henri Sosa, and Journalist 4 by Leopoldo Anzola.
Performance dates are December 9-11, and December 16-18. Fridays and Saturdays are at 8 p.m., and Sundays at 2 p.m. General admission tickets are $20, and may either be purchased at the door 30 minutes prior to showtime, or online at
