Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava brought her ‘Conversations with Cava’ tour to Miami Lakes on Sept. 13.
It was one of a series of visits to different cities in the county, when she discussed her proposed $10.9 billion budget plan that was approved by the Miami-Dade County Commission.
“Unfortunately, we’ve become the most expensive place to live, compared to our salaries, in the country,” Levine Cava said.
Levine Cava discussed goals of new affordable and workplace housing (14,000 units this year, 18,000 in 2023), grants to landlords to keep rents affordable; clean water and converting septic systems to sewage systems to avoid spills and pollution; public safety and increased funding for youth and senior programs.
The mayor spoke too about bringing the millage rate down and how a lower property tax rate may benefit residents.
She was joined at the Roberto Alonso Community Center by officials from Miami-Dade County who also answered questions from the audience.
